General notes:
Thank you for taking the time to read this. (Updated July 2022)
Since we opened in January 2019, many things have changed and we have needed to make changes along the way so we can better serve the film community.
Andrew’s Analog Service center is a business we run out of our home. Andrew and his wife both get up early in the morning and go to work. Andrew is a locksmith and Rachel is a school bus aid. Around 6 they come home, eat dinner and then work on your film. Rachel goes to bed around 10pm while Andrew gets to bed around 2am. On Friday the lab is closed so Andrew can take his wife out for dinner.
As the popularity of film increases Andrew’s and Rachels work load gets more stressful as everyone still expects their film in 4 to 7 days.
There are many factors which can slow down turnaround times. Andrew is trying to streamline the whole processes so everyone can get their film back faster. Here are a few areas which you as a customer can help if these apply to you.
When sending in your film we NEED your receipt printed or for you to write (neatly) your full name, your email, your order number and any upgrades you selected such as scanning resolution or prints. This information is needed in the order check in. About a dozen orders are received daily and having to look up most of the order details consumes almost an hour which could be better spent. Please refrain from asking for updates, especially a day or 2 after the tracking number says the film has been delivered. We know your excited but their are dozens of orders spread across 3 floors of the house. It takes valuable time to locate your film. Please don’t contact us for an update unless the maximum turnaround time has come and gone.
Those with manual film cameras, Please be carful not to damage your film by forcing the advance lever at the end of a roll. Be sure to hit the rewind button before starting to rewind your film. Be sure you are turning the handle in the correct direction. Damaged film has to be handled differently and takes extra time to prep so any damaged film is set aside till there is time to work on the damaged film. That could be a few days or a few weeks. Finally, Bulk film which you hand rolled yourself will no longer be accepted. As of July 1st we only accept Professional hand rolled film which you can buy from over a dozen places online. Unlabeled film will also be rejected and returned. This applies mostly to black and white 120 film. Mystery black and white film can’t be developed.
Those of you getting High Resolution, Half Frame, XPAN or DSLR scanning. Scanning these takes extra time and adds a minimum of a week to your turnaround time. DSLR adds a week per roll scanned.
Joe who is a family friend has returned to work after a short medical leave for vertigo issues. However he is only working 2 days each weeks which is causing delays.
Our new website is now open and selling film at discounted prices. Please note that many popular film stocks are backordered and will take time to come in, this is especially true of Kodak and Cinestill. Click HERE to visit our new film store. Please be aware our new site is a completely separate business.
Due to supply chain issues we may have trouble getting chemicals and paper required to run our business. We are expecting serious shortages this fall and winter which may cause up to temporally close.
Wile we are capable of developing all film types and most sizes, some film types take longer than others and some are only done a few times each year. 98% of our business is 35mm C-41 (color), ECN-2 (color), or black and white film. Other film sizes such as 110, APS, 120 and 126 are outside our normal workflow and will take longer to develop. In addition to this. E6 (Slide Film), C-22, and expired film developing can take considerably longer than more common film types.
Also most of our film is scanned at Standard / Basic or Medium resolution, all other scanning options fall outside our “normal” workflow and require extra time. Of these, High Resolution requires on a few extra days while DSLR can take up to a week per roll longer. As a rule, the longer it takes the longer it takes. We did not just repeat ourselves, we put off challenging projects so the harder it is the longer it takes before we even get started. If your film is expired and your choose high resolution your film may scan pink or blue or some other strange color. We recommend medium resolution for expired film. APS film that was recently developed, especially Kodak will always scan with strange colors. Fuji and some other brands are less likely to have this issue.
For those of you with half frame cameras who want DSLR scanning. This will count as 2 rolls of film and we will invoice you for the extra amount. If your half frame camera can switch between half and full and you have both types of frames on a single roll, We need to scan it twice and you will be billed for each scan.
If your frames are not well defined we can’t DSLR scan your film. When it is not possible to do with our DSLR because of the film is under exposed or damaged, We reserve the right to automatically scan your film with our Noritsu LS-600 scanner at maximum resolution and save your images in TIFF and/or RAW. No refund will be given for the difference when the customers film is at fault.
We are no longer doing sprocket hole scanning or scanning outside the frame. This is due to equipment issues and time constraints.
It seems lots of people are skipping the last page of the checkout and not seeing the address where to send the film. We made some changes we hope it helps. The reason we are hesitant to post our address for all to see because we are a home based business which values our privacy as much as possible.
The Expiration date found on our film is loosely based on the manufacture date. Kodak does not give an Expiration date for ECN-2 film. The Expiration date given is within 5 years of year which the film was manufactured. Since ECN-2 film has excellent aging properties, even 10 years past the manufacture date would give excellent results. This is why no month is listed.
we CANNOT scan damaged film. For those of you with Manual cameras please be super careful when you get to the end of the roll not to force the film advance lever as this can rip the sprocket holes on the edge of the film. Also be sure to hit the rewind button on the bottom of your camera before turning the crank. Please be sure your turning the crank in the correct direction. If you turn it in the wrong direction you could damage your film and will cause major delays in developing
For 35mm Please do not bend the leader flap to prevent the film from going back into the canister all the way. When the film is undamaged most labs can get the film out in seconds without the need for a darkroom. Damaged film requires a darkroom and your order gets set aside till we have time to extract the film in a darkroom.
Just a friendly reminder to all of our customers shooting film that like to experiment. Our Lab has a zero tolerance policy regarding film which has been souped. Sending film to us which has been souped will result in you being banned from website and other platforms. If your film has accidentally been exposed to water, please let us know ahead of time.
Your negatives and any film related property such as 127 & 616 spools and reloadable 35mm canisters will be returned automatically if we believe your actively shooting film.
We are not just a film lab. We work with most Analog media formats and transfer them to digital. We can transfer most common video tape formats to DVD. We can’t transfer Betamax or D-VHS (Digital VHS) or S-VHS. Just note there service can take weeks or months depending on the quantity
Our turnaround times are a GOAL and not a guarantee. We try our best to get film back to you as quickly as possible. Please understand that we are currently operating as a part-time business and work full-time jobs before we enter the lab to process orders. Turn around times listed below are for orders with 5 or less rolls, Larger orders will take longer.
For Fresh 35mm and 120 (or expired up to 20 years) 10 rolls or lessC-41 turnaround time is typically 4-7 days
C-41 Pushed can take up to 30 days. Please shoot at box speedB&W turnaround time is typically 1 to 2 weeks for small qty
Larger amounts of 10+ rolls can double or triple the turnaround time.
20+ Rolls could take months to complete especially if every roll is unique and different. Rolls of 120 will also take longer than 35mm. Unmarked or unusual types of black and white could cause long delaysECN-2 turnaround time is typically 1 to 2 weeks
Larger amounts of 10+ rolls can double or triple the turnaround time.
20+ Rolls could take months to complete. We can develop 120 ECN however it will take a bit longer than the 35mm version.E6 we are doing E6 on a limited bases. Contact us for details
Expired / Found Film can take 4 to 8 weeks depending on the quantity of film, type of film and how much work is needed to save the images on the film.
C-22 and K-14 can take 12 - 14 weeks to get developed. We are one of the few labs able to develop the film in color. (k-14 can only be developed in Black and White, we can sometime colorize the images)
If the film is 20+ years expired, Your making special requests such as pushing or are sending more than 10 rolls of film, Triple the above time
We are Primarily a C-41 (Color Negative film) 35mm film lab. We have the professional equipment to get this film in and out fast. Most other film types get developed by hand in tanks and this needs to be scheduled so turn around times are substantially longer.
We do not cut APS film unless requested to do so. The film is returned inside the cartridge. All images are scanned in a 16x9 ratio (4x7"). We are not able to read the camera codes
We can save your 35mm and APS scans as JPEG, (the free default option) TIFF, PNG and RAW.
The JPEG format has the lowest compression possible (fees may apply on other listings for non JPEG scan).
We welcome challenges and will gladly attempt to develop any type of film you have including C-22. However, old films (especially those made before 1990) may develop blank. To date the oldest roll of film we have developed with good results is a 1984 roll of Kodak VR. Also 110 film tends to develop worse than 35mm of the same age. We do not give refunds for blank.
Special requests are welcomed. We will push C-41 film up to 2 stops for $2 per stop. Cross processing is $5 extra. We don’t recommend pulling film. If you need C-41 or B&W pulled the price is $5 with a 1 stop limit. E6 is $10 to pull with a 1 stop limit. Pushing B&W is $3 per stop. Pushing E6 is $4 per stop.
Prints are the standard size of 4x6 or 5x7 and are waterproof & fade Resistant. We can print up to 13x19, however, larger prints are not waterproof.
We can scan film up to 70mm wide such as 116 film. We can't develop anything larger than 120/220/620.
We don't judge or care what you take pictures of, however, pictures of anything illegal or graphically violent will not be printed, transmitted or uploaded. We don’t consider drug or alcohol use as illegal activity.
Nudity in pictures is generally ignored but never printed and in some cases we reserve the right to refuse upload of images in question.E6, ECN-II, C-22 cost extra! A roll of E6 or ECN-II is $10. E6 film will be returned in a protective archival sleeve for easy viewing unless requested to be returned uncut. ECN-II (Kodak Vision 3) will be in standard protective sleeves and treated the same as C-41 film.
E6 developed in C-41 Chemicals (Cross Processed) is $10We welcome disposable cameras and film from Holga, Lomo 360, Lomo Sprocket Rocket etc, Lead Times will be long for film from Lomo type cameras that have special frame sizes. Please shoot all the pictures before sending us the disposable camera. If you found an old disposable camera the film is still good enough to be used, please do, and then send it our way!
If you are using a manual camera, please be sure to wind the film in the correct direction AFTER hitting the rewind release button on the bottom of the camera. Failure to correctly wind your film or forgetting to hit the button may cause permanent damage to the film and cause very long delays in development.
If you're using a manual camera, try to remember the final frame area is intended to be left blank so the lab has a place to hold the film while it dries. Using this area for pictures may result in you losing half your picture and/or that frame being damaged.
When Shooting 120/220 film, line up the arrow on the paper with the red dot inside the camera so your images are correctly aligned and don’t lose any images.
We are a home based business so we only give out our address to customers who need to ship us their film. If you are looking for our shipping address it is found on the very last page of the check out. If you missed it you can send us an email with your order number and we will be happy to send it to you.
We are located in Drexel Hill PA 19026
